The NetBeans Ruby and Rails IDE, according to some, is by far the best and proven IDE in Ruby and Rails. Who would’ve thought a Java IDE could do Ruby and Rails?
Published with the developer in mind, firstPress technical briefs explore emerging technologies that have the potential to be critical for tomorrow’s industry. Apress keeps developers one step ahead by presenting key information as early as possible in a PDF of 150 pages or less. Explore the future through Apress with NetBeans? Ruby and Rails IDE with JRuby, an officially endorsed NetBeans project book, which is for Ruby and Rails programmers who want to take advantage of the NetBeans IDE to facilitate their Ruby and/or Rails web application development.
* Shows you how to use the NetBeans IDE 6.5 in the Ruby and Rails development processes
* Gives you in–depth information to help you configure the working environment for your specific Ruby interpreter, application server, and database server
* Showcases the NetBeans features that enhance your productivity from project creation, to editing, debugging, and testing
Authors Chris Kutler and Brian Leonard work closely with both the developers of the NetBeans Ruby and Rails IDE project and the user community. The authors’ in–depth knowledge of the numerous product features, in addition to an understanding of how the community uses the product to meet their development practices, enables them to present you the essential information necessary to efficiently and effectively use the tools of this IDE.
What you’ll learn

The Definitive Guide to Django Web Development Done Right
Author: Adrian Holovaty , Jacob Kaplan-Moss | Publisher: Apress| 2007 | ISBN: 978-1-59059-725-5 | PDF | 447 pages | English | 2.1 MB
Product Description
Django, the Python–based equivalent to the Ruby on Rails web development framework, is presently one of the hottest topics in web development today. In The Definitive Guide to Django: Web Development Done Right, Adrian Holovaty, one of Django’s creators, and Django lead developer Jacob Kaplan–Moss show you how they use this framework to create award–winning web sites. Over the course of three parts, they guide you through the creation of a web application reminiscent of chicagocrime.org.
The first part of the book introduces Django fundamentals like installation and configuration. You’ll learn about creating the components that power a Django–driven web site. The second part delves into the more sophisticated features of Django, like outputting non–HTML content (such as RSS feeds and PDFs), plus caching and user management. The third part serves as a detailed reference to Django’s many configuration options and commands. The book even includes seven appendixes for looking up configurations options and commands. In all, this book provides the ultimate tutorial and reference to the popular Django framework.
About the Author
Adrian Holovaty, a web developer/journalist, is one of the creators and core developers of Django. He works at washingtonpost.com, where he builds database web applications and does “journalism as computer programming.” Previously, he was lead developer for World Online in Lawrence, Kansas, where Django was created.
When not working on Django improvements, Adrian hacks on side projects for the public good, such as chicagocrime.org, which won the 2005 Batten Award for Innovations in Journalism. He lives in Chicago and maintains a weblog at www.Holovaty.com.
Jacob Kaplan-Moss is one of the lead developers of Django. At his day job, he’s the lead developer for the Lawrence Journal-World, a locally owned newspaper in Lawrence, Kansas, where Django was developed. At the Journal-World, Jacob hacks on a number of sites including lawrence.com, LJWorld.com, and KUsports.com, and he is continually embarrassed by the multitude of media awards those sites win. In his spare time&emdash;what little of it there is&emdash;he fancies himself a chef.

David Griffiths, “Head First Rails: A learner’s companion to Ruby on Rails (Brain-Friendly Guides)”
O’Reilly Media, Inc. | 2009-01-02 | ISBN: 0596515774 | 462 pages | PDF | 26,5 MB
Ready to transport your web applications into the Web 2.0 era? Head First Rails takes your programming — and productivity — to the max. You’ll learn everything from the fundamentals of Rails scaffolding to building customized interactive web apps using Rails’ rich set of tools and the MVC framework.
By the time you’re finished, you’ll have learned more than just another web framework. You’ll master database interactions, integration with Ajax and XML, rich content, and even dynamic graphing of your data — all in a fraction of the time it takes to build the same apps with Java, PHP, ASP.NET, or Perl. You’ll even get comfortable and familiar with Ruby, the language that underpins Rails. But you’ll do it in the context of web programming, and not through boring exercises such as “Hello, World!”
Your time is way too valuable to waste struggling with new concepts. Using the latest research in cognitive science and learning theory to craft a multi-sensory learning experience, Head First Rails uses a visually rich format designed to take advantage of the way your brain really works.

friends of ED | ISBN: 1590597524 | January 15, 2007 | PDF | 288 pages | 4.4MB
How to develop web applications quickly and easily with the Ruby on Rails framework — The basics of programming principles and Ruby syntax, so you can begin to understand what’s going on under the hood — How to implement must-have web application features, such as user accounts, data validation, sending e-mail, image uploading, and more — How to use Ajax techniques with Rails and when not to use them — How to implement other Web 2.0 features in Rails, such as tag clouds and microformats If you’re a web designer or developer who thinks that the coding involved in developing dynamic web applications is too difficult, think again. This book, and the framework it covers, is the perfect solution to your needs. Ruby on Rails provides an easy-to-use method for quickly developing web applications, simplifying potentially complicated subjects such as web architecture, JavaScript, and SQL/database creation. The simplicity of Rails belies its power, though–this technology is used by major companies such as 37Signals and Google.
